This popular publication, jointly published by the Illinois State Museum
and the Illinois Department of Transportation, describes the former
locations of two early nineteenth-century inns, or taverns, located along
one of the earliest overland routes in southern Illinois. The archaeology
conducted at these sites and the information found in historic documents
provide a wealth of information concerning frontier travel and life.
